Enrolling at any Italian school requires the parents or the guardian to undertake a specific procedure, providing the school with all the relevant documents. In this article we focus on the public school enrolment, because the process is standardized, whilst private schools have different procedures based on their internal decisions.
The Italian government has created a unique portal to access the school enrolment procedure. In order to do so you need to have your credentials or you can use your SPID to login; if you are unable to register online you may ask your current or your prospective school to fill in the application on your behalf.

ToggleApplication documents
The application procedure requires you to provide the following documents and information:
- Child personal details;
- Each parent’s personal detail;
- Child and Parent’s ID;
- Other parent’s consent to school enrolment if the parents are divorced;
- School code;
- Religion class attendance.
You need to be prepared to have the above mentioned information available at hand to complete the registration, as you need to upload them on the online web registration portal.
Required Vaccines
In order to attend the Italian school system, each student needs to take 10 mandatory vaccines. At the moment, this is the list including all the required vaccines:
- Polio;
- Tetanus;
- Diphtheria;
- B hepatitis;
- Haemophilus Influenzae B type;
- Rubella;
- Measles;
- Pertussis;
- Parotitis;
- Chicken pox.
You are not required to list the vaccines your child took, as the local ASL will communicate directly with the school notifying it the students up to date with their vaccinations
School code
Every Italian school has a unique code to identify it among others, and you need to use this code to apply for enrolment. If you can’t find it, there is the education department research tool (link) which includes all the basic information regarding your intended school.
